Brett Lemieux, founder of sports memorabilia site MisterManCave, was found dead in one of his warehouses during a Westfield, Indiana, police raid, hours after posting a written Facebook confession on how he sold more than four-million counterfeit items worth in excess of $350 million. No foul play is suspected, with police confirming late Thursday that Lemieux took his own life.
Lemieux's lengthy online post, deleted after the raid, detailed how he faked holograms and authentication stickers of prominent vendors like Fanatics and Panini, among several others. He said he flooded the market with 80,000 forged items when Kobe Bryant died and called out others he knew who were forging items related to Tom Brady. He then went into detail about how easy it was to forge signatures with autopens.
Lemieux, 45, claimed he thought about stopping several times "but the money was too good."
WRTV in Indianapolis ran a story on the raid and its consequences, including information on how to identify a forged item. Watch it here.
