Shohei Ohtani returned to the mound for the first time in 663 days and the rust showed in his one inning of work. Facing the Padres, he gave up a leadoff single to Fernando Tatis, who advanced to second a wild pitch (clocked at 100.2 miles per hour), then Luis Arraez singled Tatis to third, followed by a Manny Machado sacrifice fly. Two groundouts ended the inning.
Ohtani registered no strikeouts but it was encouraging for the Dodgers to see his fastballs between 97.6 and 100.2 m.p.h. He had some wildness and needed 28 pitches, but it's a huge box checked on his return to the mound.
